Hypermobility

When I’m talking to a client with joint hypermobility or CTD (connective tissue disorder) about the root cause of their joint pain, it’s important to note their issues are the same as those less mobile clients, but the issues are usually more pronounced in those with CTD.

These problems occur, for everyone, because our comfy, modern living means our deeper stabilising muscles are never used. So we literally fall out of shape. For those with joint hypermobility they fall even further out of alignment and are often in greater pain earlier in life.

Those clients we see who successfully control their joint hypermobility and reduce their pain are doing so through practicing balance, alignment and strengthening exercises regularly.

Not only do our Pilates classes cover all those areas, Leith Pilates founder, Andy Pearson, became so interested in helping those with CTD that he wrote a survival guide which you can read for free in this blog post

A year on, you’ve no idea how all you’ve taught me about my hypermobile joints has infiltrated my life – I rarely have a sore back now and am working on lots of little things in daily life – I can truly say you have changed my life for the better – loads!!! Thank you so much!
